Robust Matching of 3D Lung Vessel Trees

چکیده
In order to study ventilation or to extract other functional information of the lungs, intra-patient matching of scans at a different inspiration level is valuable as an examination tool. In this paper, a method for robust 3D tree matching is proposed as an independent registration method or as a guide for other, e.g. voxel-based, types of registration. For the first time, the 3D tree is represented by intrinsic matrices, reference frame independent descriptions containing the geodesic or Euclidean distance between each pair of detected bifurcations. Marginalization of point pair probabilities based on the intrinsic matrices provides soft assign correspondences between the two trees. This global correspondence model is combined with local bifurcation similarity models, based on the shape of the adjoining vessels and the local gray value distribution. As a proof of concept of this general matching approach, the method is applied for matching lung vessel trees acquired from CT images in the inhale and exhale phase of the respiratory cycle.

Using k-d Trees for Robust 3D Point Pattern Matching
We propose a new method for matching two 3D point sets of identical cardinality with global similarity but locally non-rigid distribution. This problem arises from markerbased optical motion capture systems. The point-sets are extracted from similar design poses of two subjects with underlying non-rigidity and possible distribution discrepancies, one being a model set (manually identified) and ...
متن کاملSegmentation of Pulmonary Vascular Trees from Thoracic 3D CT Images
This paper describes an algorithm for extracting pulmonary vascular trees (arteries plus veins) from three-dimensional (3D) thoracic computed tomographic (CT) images. The algorithm integrates tube enhancement filter and traversal approaches which are based on eigenvalues and eigenvectors of a Hessian matrix to extract thin peripheral segments as well as thick vessels close to the lung hilum. Th...
متن کاملQuantification of Tortuosity and Fractal Dimension of the Lung Vessels in Pulmonary Hypertension Patients
UNLABELLED Pulmonary hypertension (PH) can result in vascular pruning and increased tortuosity of the blood vessels. In this study we examined whether automatic extraction of lung vessels from contrast-enhanced thoracic computed tomography (CT) scans and calculation of tortuosity as well as 3D fractal dimension of the segmented lung vessels results in measures associated with PH. In this pilot ...
متن کاملOptimization of 3D Planning Dosimetry in a Breast Phantom for the Match Region of Supraclavicular and Tangential Fields
Introduction: The complex geometry of breast and also lung and heart inhomogeneities near the planning target volume (PTV) result in perturbations in dose distribution. This problem can result in overdosage or underdosage in the match region of the three treatment fields. The purpose of this study is to create a homogeneous dose distribution in the match region between the supraclavicular and t...
متن کاملMultiscale Medialness for Robust Segmentation of 3D Tubular Structures
Segmentation of tubular structures like blood vessels and airways in 3D volume data is of vital interest for medical applications like diagnosis and surgical planning. The proposed method uses a vessel detection filter, which is based on a novel multiscale medialness function and also provides a radius estimate. Based on the filter ouput, centerlines of the tubes are extracted and the vessel tr...
